Prize Fight MMA
Prize Fight MMA is owned and operated by promoter Bryan Young.
Bryan got his start by getting into boxing when he was a young man, competing as an amateur. Bryan and his brother did 12 years of boxing before they actually got into MMA (Mixed Martial Arts) three years ago. As fans of MMA it was a natural progression for them to step into the Mixed Martial Arts world.
When they promoted their first MMA event they were bitten by the bug and really began to push mixed martial arts in the Mid-South, which has actually exceeded the boxing aspect of their gym.
Prize Fight MMA hosts a stable of young, up and coming amateur fighters as well as potential pro fighters, both men and women.
“Come in for a week and try it. Take a Jiu-Jitsu class, an MMA class along with a Muay Thai class with boxing as well. Just experience it, see if it’s for you. We want to make people feel at home here.”
Prize Fight MMA – Boxing
Prize Fight MMA still has an amateur boxing team as well.
“John McGee is the Head Boxing Coach at Prize Fight. He is a certified boxing coach through USA Boxing-the governing body for Olympic Boxing in the United States. John is himself a father of four and is extremely patient with each and every young athlete and dedicates a minimum of 20 hours per week training amateur boxers. One of Coach McGee’s top athletes is Mike Alexander, who just won the 2013 West Tennessee Golden Gloves and is hoping to qualify for the 2016 U.S. Olympic Trials.
Prize Fight won the bid to host the 2004 U.S. Olympic Team Trials for the Team that went on to compete in Athens, Greece. Prize Fight hosted the 2013 Southeastern Association Junior Olympics in Tunica, MS. Coach John’s philosophy is simple “while every young athlete might not have been blessed with the ability to compete at the Olympic level, boxing can teach every young person character, discipline, and self confidence that are all necessary to become a success in life.”
In 2004 Bryan was involved in the US Olympic Boxing trials in 2004 in Tunica for the team that went to Athens Greece.
Prize Fight MMA – More Than Just Fighting
Prize Fight MMA is more than just a gym that teaches you to fight. If your goal is to simply get in great shape then Bryan and his staff have some great programs that will help you do just that. Fitness Kickboxing, Boxing, Muay Thai, and more.
“Our Advanced Jiu-Jitsu class is taught by Josh Bullard. The class is from 10:00am-12:00pm every Saturday here at the Prize Fight MMA Academy. Josh won Gold at the 2013 Memphis NAGA in the No-Gi Intermediate Division. Josh also corners many fighters throughout the mid-south and has cross-trained at many gyms throughout the area. Josh has been married for four years and has three beautiful children.”
