As the Panola Playhouse gears up for another huge summer show, Les Miserables (opening July 12th) we were able to corner the new Director of the Panola Playhouse theatre, Lauren Suddoth, and find out what makes the local theatre so special.
Lauren took over the Director duties in January, taking over for long-time Director Vic Henson.
With the Panola Playhouse founded in 1962, this year marks it’s 51st year in existence. The small North Mississippi theatre has gained quite a reputation over the last few years with putting on extremely well done “Broadway Style” shows that feature tremendous local talent from all over North Mississippi and Tennessee.
These actors and actresses, as well as all of the technical crew behind the scenes, devote their spare time, without pay, to putting on top notch productions in this gorgeous non-profit theatre. These productions allow everyone in the community to see and be apart of experiences that most people will never get the chance to.
For many, as I personally can attest, the theatre becomes a home. It’s a magical place where friendships and families are made, enjoyed, and shared with the masses.
One of the other great things the Panola Playhouse does is it’s annual Children’s Summer Camp. It’s a week long camp where children learn how to put a play together and what’s involved. At the end of the week the children see their hard work pay off as they get to perform on stage in front of family and friends in a magical setting.
As a non-profit organization, the Panola Playhouse relies on donations and sponsorship’s from the community to keep bringing the quality productions and rewarding experiences on an annual basis.

Are you interested in auditioning? The playhouse welcomes everyone to become a part of the family. While not everyone can have the lead roles, the great people at Panola Playhouse make sure that everyone can get involved in some form.
The Panola Playhouse season generally includes four productions. The show list each season consists of a variety of productions including comedies, dramas, children’s productions, and musicals.
“The theatre usually selects Broadway hits from the past as well as classics. Some of the blockbuster shows that we have produced in the past include “Annie”, “Beauty and the Beast”, “The Sound of Music”, “A Christmas Carol”, “Oklahoma”, “Fiddler On The Roof”, and many more. We welcome you to come and be a part of the magic of the Panola Playhouse.”
Be sure to come out and see Les Miserables, opening Friday July 12th and running through August 4th.
